BEFORE THE MOVE

To-Do's:

  • Reserve a rental truck early. They're usually gone by mid-July!
  • Fill out post office change-of-address form online.
  • Make arrangements for storage or a place to stay temporarily if necessary.
  • Schedule disconnection of all utility services at your old home, and connection of them at your new one. Be sure to disconnect the day after you leave and connect the day before you arrive. If you have "last month" deposits with services, such as the telephone company, request your refund.
  • Check with your insurance company to see how your possessions are covered during transit. If you don't have renters insurance, buy it!
  • Change your address with all subscriptions.
  • Notify any creditors or banking institutions of your new address.
